Emergency services are searching the site of the nightclub fire in Murcia, southeast Spain, and have warned that the death toll may increase.

Officials report that at least thirteen people have died in the nightclub fire in Murcia, southeast Spain. Rescue efforts are ongoing as they search for missing individuals.

The fire has affected three adjacent establishments. Murcia’s emergency services have also reported four injuries, and there is concern that the death toll may rise.

Murcia’s fire department shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), showing personnel battling the blaze inside the nightclub. The footage revealed significant damage to a portion of the roof caused by the fire.

Diego Seral of Spain’s National Police mentioned that the collapse of parts of the building has made it challenging to locate victims and determine the fire’s origin. Identifying the bodies will also take time.

Outside the club, a group of young people waited anxiously for information about the missing. One survivor mentioned that they had only a short time before alarms went off, the lights went out, and they heard screams about the fire. Several family members and friends are missing.

Maria Dolores Albellan, a representative for the Teatre nightclub, stated that the fire began in the neighboring club Fonda Milagros before spreading to the two adjacent clubs. Reports suggest that there were multiple birthday parties happening at the time.

Mayor of Murcia Jose Ballesta expressed devastation over the incident and announced three days of mourning for the deceased. Flags were lowered to half-staff in front of the City Hall of Murcia.

Four individuals have been hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
