Trump campaign criticizes Biden for Transgender Day declaration

  • Biden’s TDOV declaration on Easter criticized by Trump campaign
  • White House defends Biden’s dedication to transgender rights
  • Political clash arises over Biden’s Easter scheduling for TDOV

The transgender community observes this day annually on March 31. However, the Democratic president’s proclamation of this day on Easter Sunday has been met with disapproval from critics who noted that it conflicts with the holiday.

Joe Biden’s proclamation that Easter Sunday would be Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) has drawn criticism from the campaign of Donald Trump.

On Friday, the president of the United States declared the day a tribute to the extraordinary bravery and contributions of transgender Americans and a reaffirmation of the country’s dedication to establishing an ideal union.

Working towards the eradication of violence and discrimination based on gender identity, he implored Americans to unite with us in elevating the lives and voices of transgender people across the nation.

Since 2009, TDOV, an annual celebration of the transgender community, has occurred on March 31.

However, Democratic candidate Biden has faced criticism for his choice to declare it on the same day this year, despite being aware that it conflicts with Easter Sunday, a sacred Christian day that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus.

Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary for Mr. Trump’s campaign, held the Biden administration accountable for an alleged “years-long assault on the Christian faith” and demanded an apology.

Ms Leavitt stated on Saturday, “We demand an apology from Joe Biden’s failing campaign and the White House on behalf of the millions of Catholics and Christians in the United States who believe tomorrow is solely for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson also criticised the president, stating on social media that the “Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter” and that the decision was “outrageous and abhorrent.”

Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the White House, stated that the Republicans who criticise Joe Biden use cruel, bigoted, and dishonest language to sow discord and undermine our nation.

He added that President Biden, a devout Christian who celebrates Easter with his family, advocates for unity and the protection of the dignity and liberties of every American.

President Biden will never exploit his religious convictions for financial or political gain.

Conspicuously present at religious gatherings, Mr. Biden has stated in several interviews that his Catholic upbringing is integral to his persona.

In 2021, following a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican, he disclosed to the press that the papacy deemed him a “good Catholic” who ought to continue receiving Communion.

On the other hand, numerous conservative Christians disagree with Mr. Biden’s political views regarding homosexual marriage and the right of women to abortion.

Trump, who claimed his political opponent was “against God” in 2020, has frequently cited this as a reference throughout the years.

Mr Trump told a Cleveland crowd, as he sought to win over voters in the swing state of Ohio, “He is following the radical-left agenda: take away your guns, destroy your Second Amendment, no religion, nothing, hurt the Bible, hurt God.

Mr Biden described the insult by the former president as “horrendous” and referred to his faith as the “foundation” of his existence.

On Monday, the president and first lady will host their third White House Easter Egg Roll, a historically significant event in which tens of thousands of individuals partake in themed activities.
