- Bus Driver Praised for Swift Evacuation
- Firefighters Battle Bus Blaze on A4074
- Investigation Launched into Cause of the Incident
The fire department has praised a bus driver for evacuating passengers before a bus caught fire.
Saturday, the A4074 in Nuneham Courtenay, Oxfordshire, was closed while firefighters battled the conflagration.
The Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service stated that the bus driver did an “excellent job” of evacuating all passengers.
The bus company Thames Travel reported that there were no injuries on its X40 service bus.
Christian Orr, the incident commander, stated, “This was a difficult incident to manage because, in addition to a severe fire, the bus’s diesel tank had ruptured, so we had to prevent large quantities of diesel from entering the drains and causing potential environmental damage.”
When personnel arrived, the double-decker was “well ablaze,” but they were able to bring it under control using two high-pressure hose reels.
According to the report, the incident caused “significant traffic disruption.”
Investigation
The bus company’s spokesperson stated that the vehicle was embroiled in a “thermal incident.”
They added, “Our driver called 911, and we’re investigating the incident’s cause.”
“We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to reassure passengers that we have an excellent safety record, that all of our vehicles undergo regular, thorough inspections and maintenance, and that incidents of this nature are extremely rare.“
