Nicola Sturgeon denies ‘secret gay’ claim as she explains why she resigned

Former Scottish first minister says online rumours about her were “part of the reason” for her resignation. One of the allegations she refuted was that she was a “secret lesbian” who had an affair with a female French diplomat and purchased a home from Judy Murray, the mother of Andy Murray.

According to Nicola Sturgeon, “part of the reason” she resigned was due to online rumours and the need for more privacy.

In February, the former SNP leader abruptly resigned as Scotland’s first minister, stating that “in my mind and in my heart” she knew it was time to step down.

One of the allegations she refuted was that she was a “secret lesbian” who had an affair with a female French diplomat and purchased a home from the mother of tennis star Sir Andy Murray as a love nest.

She also mentioned that she had an international property portfolio and a super injunction in place to conceal the truth.

Ms. Sturgeon stated, “I’m not naive, I’m not of the opinion that I’ll step down one day and be completely anonymous the next. I recognise the realities of what I’ve done, and I’ll still be in parliament, but I’d like a bit more privacy.”

“I’d like a bit more anonymity, and I’d like to preserve some of the things that other people take for granted that I’ve forgotten to have.”

Ms. Sturgeon, who has been an MSP since 1999 and led the Holyrood administration for eight years, deemed it a “success” that people still do not know much about her.

Some people want to believe that Nicola Sturgeon has a hidden, secret existence, which is unfortunately not the case in some respects.

Ms. Sturgeon continued, “When I read accounts of my life on social media, I think, ‘You know, it sounds so much more glamorous and thrilling!'”

Humza Yousaf replaced the seasoned politician as first minister earlier this week.

Peter Murrell, her husband, resigned as chief executive of the SNP shortly after she did, citing his future as a “distraction” from the race to replace her.

After more than two decades in the position, he abruptly resigned after the party’s communications director resigned in the aftermath of revelations that he provided a journalist with false membership numbers.
