In October 2022, the 21-year-old was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.
Mason Greenwood will not appear for Manchester United following the dismissal of his attempted rape charge earlier this year.
The club noted, “Everyone involved, including Mason, is conscious of the challenges of continuing his Manchester United career.
“Therefore, it has been mutually agreed that it would be best for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve this result.”
According to the club’s internal investigation, “the material posted online did not provide a complete picture, and Mason did not commit the offenses for which he was initially charged.”
In 2022, a lady posted a video of herself bleeding and bruised on social media, alleging footballer abuse.
In the video, a man identified as Greenwood is heard yelling at his alleged victim to “lift your f legs.”
The woman responds that she does not desire sexual activity.
The male responds, “I don’t give a f* what you want, you little piece of s*.”
Also in October 2022, the forward was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior. The initial arrest occurred in January of that year.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated in February 2023 that it had a “duty to drop the case” due to “the withdrawal of key witnesses and the discovery of new evidence.”
As a result of these developments, there was “no longer a realistic chance of conviction,” prompting the CPS to discontinue prosecution and withdraw all charges against Greenwood.
Greenwood, 21, apologised to mistakes and accepted responsibility in a statement this afternoon.
He has consistently denied any criminal allegations.
The decision to not play was a “collaborative” effort between Manchester United, Greenwood, and his family.
The club announced last week that they were “in the final stages” of their internal investigation into Greenwood after completing the “fact-finding phase.”
Richard Arnold, the chief executive officer of Manchester United, stated that the club’s investigation “attempted to gather as much evidence as possible to establish facts and context.”
In an open letter to fans on Monday, he also explained that scheduling decisions were “influenced by my desire to minimize the impact of the investigation on our men’s, women’s, and Lionesses teams.”
Mr. Arnold stated that the investigation “led us to the conclusion that Mason did not commit the alleged crimes.
While I am convinced that Mason did not perpetrate the acts for which he was charged. Mason has acknowledged that he has made mistakes for which he accepts responsibility.
At the start of the new season, United fans protested and threatened to leave if Greenwood was reintegrated.
Countdown host and well-known supporter Rachel Riley is among them.
She stated that she would no longer be a devotee if Greenwood remained at United.
