A man has been detained on suspicion of murdering a woman who died in a park following a possible knife attack.
Saturday, a 74-year-old woman was attacked in Ludwell Valley Park in Wonford, Exeter, according to the Devon and Cornwall Police.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 16:00 GMT, but the local woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male in his 30s from the region of Exmouth was apprehended by armed police on Exeter High Street at approximately 21:30 GMT.
Police said they didn’t know the attack’s motive and didn’t think the suspect and victim were friends.
Officers believe they have possibly located the weapon believed to have been used in the assault.
Ch. Supt. Dan Evans stated that no one else was being sought, and the suspect remained in custody.

He stated, “I would like to reassure everyone that this is an isolated incident.”
“Although this type of incident is extremely rare, Wonford is a very close-knit community, and I know that the death will be profoundly felt by every one who resides there.
During this unfortunate time, my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim.
