Jacqueline Gold CBE, our extraordinary executive chair, passed away yesterday evening with her husband Dan, daughter Scarlett, sister Vanessa, and brother-in-law Nick by her side, according to a statement from her family.

Vanessa said Jacqueline bravely faced stage four breast cancer for seven years.

In the 2016 New Year’s Honours, she was awarded a CBE for services to entrepreneurship, women in business, and social enterprise.

As CEO, Ms. Gold made Ann Summers a high-street name.

In 1972, David and his brother Ralph bought the firm in liquidation with only four sex businesses.

In 1981, the duo hired Ms. Gold as an intern to begin the process of transforming the company.

She quickly created a name for herself by launching the Ann Summers party to expand the brand.

The concept of conducting product-promotional events in the homes of customers proved to be very successful and circumvented laws prohibiting the public display of sex toys.

In 1987, she was promoted to the position of chief executive officer after serving as a company director.

Ms. Gold, executive chair, and her sister Vanessa, CEO, managed the 81-store company in recent years.
