In the aftermath of his dispute with the BBC, Gary Lineker has confronted Twitter CEO Elon Musk over a threatening message sent to his son.
The Match Of The Day host, who was reinstated on Monday, tweeted a screenshot of a direct message in which a user called his son, George, a “mug” who should be “burned at the stake” for defending his father.
Lineker posed the question: “Is this acceptable on Twitter, Elon Musk?” And I’m not talking about syntax.”
The BBC suspended the 62-year-old Match of the Day host for tweets criticizing the government’s migration policy.
It has now agreed to enable the ex-England footballer to return to the airwaves this weekend. With BBC director general Tim Davie denying it was a backdown by the corporation.
It will undergo an independent assessment of its social media usage policies.
