A court official confirmed that the body discovered by rescue workers in Tenerife is that of British teenager Jay Slater. A court spokesperson in Tenerife said fingerprints taken during a post-mortem proved the body was that of the British youngster.

Police said that fresh resources had been brought in to locate the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. The Guardia Civil, whose ground searches had focused on the area where his last mobile phone connection was detected, stated that their efforts "are not being scaled back."
