On Wednesday, during a match between Sheffield Steelers and Birmingham City, Rebecca Welch was reportedly subjected to obscene banter from the crowd.

Two football supporters have been apprehended on suspicion of verbally abusing a female referee.

On Saturday, during Birmingham City’s victory over Sheffield, supporters were apprehended. They were suspected of chanting misogynistic language at match official Rebecca Welch.

A statement from West Midlands Police read, “We have arrested two boys for misogynistic chanting at the female referee during today’s home game of Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.”
