Erik ten Hag and Frank Lampard led tributes to Cristiano Ronaldo after he became the first player in the history of football to reach 700 goals for a single club. The 37-year-old surpassed the milestone when he scored the game-winning goal for United against Everton, 20 years and two days after opening his account for Sporting.
Ronaldo is also the top scorer in men’s international football in the Champions League, and both managers at Goodison Park praised his phenomenal accomplishment.
Ten Hag stated, “That is quite impressive.” “To score 700 goals is an incredible feat. I am quite pleased for him. I commend him on his performance and am pleased that he scored his first Premier League goal of the season. He has to be patient, and I’m certain he will score more goals.”
Everton’s Lampard, who competed against Ronaldo as a member of Chelsea and England, remarked, “It’s remarkable. In an age in which Messi and have both played, he is one of the best players to ever grace the sport. Comparisons between them are irrelevant.
“They are both incredible football players in history. They have amassed abnormal numbers that have become commonplace. The other night, when he was on 699, I wanted him to score in the Europa League. In the cold light of day, though, you must give him credit. It is amazing.”
The United manager believes Ronaldo’s confidence has suffered without a Premier League goal this season, but he expects the veteran to improve now that he has scored. Ten Hag continued, “Every player requires it, even the finest in the world.
I’ve worked with several goal-scorers, and I’ve observed that they require goals each season to maintain that sensation and validate their instincts. Once they have goals, games become more fluid and easier to play. This will also occur with him.”
