Moeen Ali and Matthew Mott, the England white-ball head coach, have criticized the scheduling of England’s ODI series against Australia, which begins on Thursday, barely four days after their victory in the T20 World Cup final.
On Thursday in Adelaide, some members of England’s squad, including captain Jos Buttler and Moeen, will have little time to celebrate their victory. It is similar to when several of England’s 2019 squad returned to action 10 days after the World Cup final victory over New Zealand in a match against Ireland.
Moeen continued, “It’s unfortunate because as a group we want to enjoy, celebrate, and have that [time] because you put so much effort into it as well.” “Having a game in three days is awful. As players, we are becoming accustomed to it. However, when you play every two or three days, it is challenging to always give your all.”
Mott continued, “I can’t lie, it’s not great. I believe we have always viewed this series as something that requires us to be quite professional. The schedule is what it is, and we must adhere to it.”
