John Njau Kibue, a 24-year-old Kenyan, was revealed to have died while working as a security guard at the World Cup in Qatar. Kibue plummeted from the eighth floor of the Lusail Stadium early on Saturday morning, following Argentina’s quarterfinal victory against the Netherlands.
The World Cup’s organizing body, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, announced that Kibue had died after three days in intensive care and that a prompt investigation into the circumstances surrounding his collapse will be conducted.
“On Saturday, December 10, while on duty, John Njau Kibue, a security guard at Lusail Stadium, suffered a terrible fall,” the Supreme Court stated. “We regret to inform you that, despite the efforts of the medical team, he died away in the hospital on Tuesday, December 13, after three days in intensive care. His relatives have been notified.
“Qatar’s tournament organizers are conducting an urgent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fall and will release additional information pending the outcome of the investigation.”
The event occurred approximately two hours after Friday night’s game. One witness informed that Kibue had fallen from the stadium’s highest outside concourse near gate 30.
The family of Kibue requests more information regarding the circumstances behind his fall. Anne Wanjiru, Kibue’s sister, told the Standard newspaper in Nairobi on Tuesday morning, “We received news that he passed away.” We are quite heartbroken.
Wanjiru requested assistance from the Kenyan government and Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA. She stated, “We demand answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.”
They assert that he was inebriated. According to reports, he worked long hours. The details of how he fell are not emerging. We have no idea where to begin. It is quite unpleasant; they should assist us.
Kibue is the second migrant worker whose death at the World Cup has been confirmed. A Filipino national passed away last week at the Sealine Resort, where the Saudi Arabia national team trains.
According to sources, he sustained head injuries after slipping on a slippery slope and falling to the ground.
The Supreme Court has confirmed a death probe. The executive director of the World Cup, Nasser al-Khater, appeared to disregard the catastrophe. In answer to concerns concerning the tragedy, he stated, “Death is a natural part of life, whether it occurs at work or in your sleep,” as reported by the Athletic.
“We are currently in the midst of the World Cup. And we enjoy a prosperous World Cup. And this is something you wish to discuss at this time?” he stated.
