Jurgen Klopp criticized Gabriel Agbonlahor for his hasty assessment of Erik ten Hag and stated that he expects Manchester United to “come back” from their humiliation against Liverpool at the hands of Brentford.
The former Aston Villa forward-turned-commentator stunned the Liverpool boss with his critique of United’s 4-0 loss at Brentford on Sunday, in which he asserted that Ten Hag should “simply pack up” after two Premier League games in charge, having “started the season in a shambles.”
Klopp stated that he was so enraged by Agbonlahor’s remarks that he almost called TalkSport to complain. He feels the criticism, along with United’s two league defeats thus far, will feed their determination to redeem themselves against Liverpool on Monday at Old Trafford.
The Liverpool manager stated, “After the Brentford match, it was not a good week for United.” In these instances, we forget how talented Brentford is.
“After viewing the first half, I drove home while listening to TalkSport and Gabby. He lost to us by a score of 6-0 in my rookie season, and I do not recall him as a psychological monster on the field… but after hearing what he said about United, I was close to phoning him and telling him, “You have completely forgotten that you were a player.” It was incredible. And if former players are acting in this manner, you can guess how the rest of the game is proceeding.
“Ask yourself how you would like to respond in that situation. You would retaliate, which is what we anticipate. The good news is that every United match is identical. Even though we are dissatisfied with our start, there are a few things we loved.
We do not know if United can change anything or everything. It is difficult to prepare because it is early in the season and you do not have a lot of information about the opposing squad.
“Crystal Palace played against us for the second game with five defenders, so we had to go back a long way to gather some impressions of it. It is difficult but acceptable. We play United away, which has never been easy and never will be simple, so we do our very best.
Liverpool, who won the previous season’s matchup 5-0, will be without the suspended Darwin Nez, who was sent off against Crystal Palace, but Roberto Firmino will be eligible to replace him after recovering from a minor injury.
Klopp continued, “Of course, I communicated with Darwin. He was dissatisfied with himself. He apologized, which is perfectly acceptable, and we told him so. It is unnecessary to lead him with his head bowed through the building.
It occurred. We are human beings. We have made and will continue to make mistakes in our lives, and you must move on. If you don’t do it again, you’re in the clear.”
