Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been named head of football operations at Red Bull, which owns the Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York clubs, the firm said on Wednesday.
Klopp, who finished his spectacular nine-year tenure with Liverpool at the end of the previous season, will begin on January 1, 2025.
“After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn’t be more excited to be involved in a project like this,” Klopp told reporters.
According to a statement by the Austrian energy drinks company on Wednesday, “Klopp will not interfere in the day-to-day business of the clubs, but rather take on a higher-level strategic position.

Klopp continued, “I could not be more excited. My primary position is as a mentor to the Red Bull clubs’ coaches and management.
Sky Deutschland reports. Klopp’s contract has an escape clause, which allows him to take over as manager of the German national team if approached.
The 57-year-old joined Liverpool in October 2015 and led the club to the Champions League, their first English League title since 1990, and the Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, and Community Shield.
Klopp, who led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles, a German Cup, and a Champions League final in 2013, revealed in January that he would be leaving Liverpool after the season.
