Due to a left knee injury, Jack Leach has been ruled out for the remainder of England’s Test tour of India. The injury occurred during England’s initial Test victory in Hyderabad, where the 32-year-old was limited to a restricted role. Consequently, he was unable to participate in the subsequent Test in Vizag.
In his place, Somerset teammate Shoaib Bashir stepped in and made his international debut, taking four wickets. Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Bashir comprised England’s spin attack for the second Test; together, the trio had only three caps.

The series resumes in Rajkot on Thursday with the score at 1-1 after India’s 106-run victory in Vizag. As England will not be selecting a replacement, Leach will be returning home.
The England and Wales Cricket Board issued the following statement: “He will depart for Abu Dhabi within the next twenty-four hours, where the England team has been based in preparation for Thursday’s third Test in Rajkot. Leach will work closely with the medical teams from Somerset and England regarding his rehabilitation.”
