Ghana’s early elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations has led to the dismissal of head coach Chris Hughton. At the same time, Ivory Coast has terminated Jean-Louis Gasset despite still having a chance to qualify for the round of 16.
Hughton and Gasset both resigned, and Tom Saintfiet stepped down as manager of the Gambia. Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi also resigned following his team’s elimination on Tuesday.
Ivory Coast’s uncertain progression, prompted by their loss to Equatorial Guinea, led to Gasset’s departure. The team finished third in Group A following a heavy 4-0 loss on Monday, awaiting qualification as one of the four best third-place finishers.
The football federation stated Gasset, aged 70, was dismissed due to “insufficient results,” with Emerse Fae serving as interim coach.
Ivory Coast’s fate will be determined on Wednesday, contingent on other outcomes. Gasset has won ten of seventeen matches since May 2022 but has faced pressure for omitting key players.

Ghana’s elimination after Cameroon defeated the Gambia 3-2 led to Hughton’s dismissal. Ghana failed to advance on Monday against Mozambique, finishing the group stage with two points.
The Ghana Football Association announced Hughton’s immediate dismissal, terminating the technical staff of the Black Stars.
Belmadi resigned after Algeria’s 1-0 loss to Mauritania, having led Algeria to victory in the 2019 Cup of Nations but facing successive bottom finishes in their group.
Saintfiet’s dismissal followed the Gambia’s elimination with no points in a tough group including Senegal, Cameroon, and Guinea.
