England defeated West Indies by 16 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 International series in Barbados. Sophia Dunkley (43) and Maia Bouchier (24) were required to form a formidable 40-run partnership to calm the middle of the tourists’ innings following a couple of early wickets.
Sarah Glenn’s spectacular 10 from the final three balls propelled the team to the final score of 141. It took a concerted effort from the tourists’ bowlers to restrict West Indies, but Charlie Dean led the way with figures of 3-22; her first overs in international T20 cricket were washed out in January in Adelaide.
Dean stated, “I’m ecstatic with my performance; to contribute in such a way is astounding. It didn’t feel like my first T20; after playing in The Hundred and being on the 50-over squad, I felt really at ease on the field.
“It’s a privilege to play at venues such as the Kensington Oval. It’s something I never imagined I’d be doing, so it’s rather extraordinary. We hope to return to the field on Saturday and achieve a similar result.”
Earlier, Dunkley scored the most runs for the tourists as they posted 141 for six. She scored 43 runs while Maia Bouchier scored 24 runs off of 15 deliveries.
Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium hosted England’s first Twenty20 international, which they won by eight wickets. In addition, they won all three matches in the one-day series. On Saturday, the third T20I will take place at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
