Eleven days before the Australian Open, Emma Raducanu was forced to quit. It was her second-round match at the ASB Classic in New Zealand after injuring her ankle.
In Auckland, the 20-year-old British player won the first set 6-0 against Viktoria Kuzmova but lost the second set 7-5.

Before the start of the third set, Raducanu requested medical attention. And just two points into her service game, it was clear that she could not continue.
Raducanu’s 2022 season was cut short by a wrist injury in October. But she began 2023 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph against 17-year-old Czech prospect Linda Fruhvirtova on Tuesday.
