Manu Tuilagi and Ben Youngs have been picked to Eddie Jones’s first England training squad of the fall, but experienced scrum-half Danny Care has been omitted.

Tuilagi, who has recovered from a knee injury, and Youngs, who elected not to visit Australia for personal reasons, are both included in the 36-man squad that will begin preparations for their four home Autumn Nations series matches in November with a three-day training camp this weekend.

Eddie Jones, the head coach of England, is now without several top players due to injury, including George Ford, Maro Itoje, Courtney Laws, Sam Underhill, and Anthony Watson.

Care’s 35-year-old international comeback appears to be gone, as he was replaced in the first half of the Sydney final against the Wallabies due to an error-prone performance.

Jack van Poortvliet and Alex Mitchell join Youngs in the 36-man squad as scrum-halves, although Harry Randall, another nine who traveled to Australia, is not included.

Centre Joe Marchant is also cut after failing to impress in the 2-1 series victory Down Under. Kyle Sinckler and Joe Marler are among those available for selection but are not included.

Both Northampton Saints’ Alex Coles and Saracens’ Hugo Tizard, who has previously represented England U20s, received their first call-ups from Jones.

In mid-October, the final roster for the Autumn Nations Series will be announced.
