After discussions with Cristiano Ronaldo’s representation, Chelsea has signaled that it is no longer interested in signing the Manchester United forward.
Jorge Mendes reportedly offered the 37-year-old to Chelsea after Cristiano Ronaldo informed Manchester United of his want to leave Old Trafford due to the club’s perceived lack of ambition in their summer transfer transactions.
In recent weeks, Mendes held discussions with Todd Boehly regarding a prospective transfer, with Chelsea’s American co-owner reportedly interested in purchasing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
It is understood that Chelsea, who completed the £50 million purchase of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City on Wednesday, has declined the possibility after speaking with Thomas Tuchel.
The manager has Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Sterling, and Armando Broja as his primary strikers after allowing Romelu Lukaku to join Internazionale on loan. West Ham has shown considerable interest in Broja, who spent last season on loan at Southampton.
As Tuchel focuses on bolstering his defense, it is unlikely that Chelsea would acquire any more attacking reinforcements. However, it is said that Chelsea is still on the market for a versatile forward who can also provide insurance for Reece James at right wing-back.
Ronaldo has also been offered to Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Paris Saint-Germain; however, the German champions have stated that they will not chase a player who scored 24 goals in 38 games for Manchester United last season. Ronaldo cited family reasons for his absence from United’s training last week, and he has not joined the squad for the preseason tour.
According to sources in Portugal on Wednesday, an unnamed Saudi Arabian team has offered Ronaldo a deal worth approximately £100 million each season. However, it is believed that Ronaldo would like to remain in Europe and participate in the Champions League.
