Former world number one Ash Barty has revealed her first pregnancy.
The tennis champion retired after last year’s Australian Open and will not defend her title this month in Melbourne.
Friday night, the 26-year-old broke her news over social media. Barty uploaded an Instagram snap of her dog Origi wearing baby shoes.
“2023 will be the best year to date. We are very eager for our new trip,” Barty wrote in the caption of an Instagram photo that included a baby emoji. “Origi is already the protective older sibling”
Garry Kissick, a professional golfer, also posted a photo of the baby shoes with the dog and a baby-sized Liverpool kit along with the message “Little Red, 2023” and a baby emoji on Instagram.
Three-time grand slam winner Barty stunned the tennis world in 2022 by quitting the sport just seven weeks after ending Australia’s 44-year title drought in singles in Melbourne.
Her big slam titles included the French Open in 2020, Wimbledon in 2021, and the Australian Open in her home country in 2022.
The 26-year-old Barty wed Kissick in a private ceremony held in Queensland in July of last year.
