  • Alisson out six weeks with hamstring injury
  • Misses key games in Premier League, UCL
  • Kelleher expected to cover in Alisson’s absence

Liverpool has suffered a major injury setback after scans revealed that Alisson will be out for six weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Brazil international was replaced in the 79th minute of the 1-0 victory after suffering a second hamstring injury of the season. Tests have confirmed that the severity of the injury means Liverpool will be without their first-choice goalkeeper until after the international break in November.

Liverpool face a rigorous schedule between international vacations in October and November, which manager Arne Slot believes will test his Premier League leaders. However, they will do so without Alisson, who is expected to miss Premier League games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Aston Villa, as well as the Carabao Cup trip to Brighton and Champions League group matches against RB Leipzig and German champions Bayer Leverkusen. If he returns on schedule, the goalkeeper will be eligible for the league trip to Southampton on November 24th and Real Madrid’s visit to Anfield three days later.

Alisson missed ten games last season due to injury and illness, and he missed this season’s league defeat of Bournemouth and the Carabao Cup destruction of West Ham due to a hamstring injury. However, he remains a very significant character.

Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili, a Georgia international, from Valencia in August for up to £29 million, although he will not join the club until next summer. Caoimhin Kelleher will have another chance to impress in Alisson’s absence. At the same time, third-choice keeper Vitezslav Jaros, who relieved the South American at Selhurst Park while Kelleher was out due to sickness, is highly regarded at Liverpool.
