Aleksandar Mitrovic was banned for eight games for shoving Chris Kavanagh during Fulham’s FA Cup loss at Manchester United.
The striker was dismissed for violent conduct towards Kavanagh, which extended his standard three-match sanction by three games and received an additional two-match suspension for using “inappropriate, abusive, insulting, and threatening” language.
After the sanction was imposed by an independent regulatory commission, the Football Association stated, “We argued that the standard punishment that would otherwise apply to Aleksandar Mitrovic for the violent conduct he committed towards the match referee in the 72nd minute was insufficient. The regulatory commission affirmed the charge against the forward, and a three-match suspension was issued. This is in addition to the three-match suspension he received for receiving a red card.
“The forward separately acknowledged that his conduct and language after being dismissed were improper, abusive, insulting. And threatening, and the regulatory commission imposed an additional two-match suspension and £75,000 fine. The governing body has suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic for a total of eight matches. One of these suspensions has already been served, so the forward will miss Fulham FC’s next seven matches.
Marco Silva has been banned from the touchline for two games for his conduct at Old Trafford.
Silva confessed to using abusive and insulting language or conduct towards Kavanagh and the fourth official. But he denied throwing a water bottle at the assistant referee.
Despite this, the allegation was upheld with a £20,000 fine, and another fine of the same amount was imposed for questioning the referee’s integrity during his post-match press conference.
