- VR sex in metaverse predicted
- Multi-sensory VR standardizes experiences
- Ethical concerns and challenges
Although most may find the notion of having sex in the metaverse repugnant, a VR expert predicts that individuals will “lean toward convenience,” just as they did with dating apps.
According to Sam Hall, the managing director of Mixed Reality Rooms, individuals from all walks of life will don VR headgear in ten years to avoid the discomfort and dangers associated with in-person sexual activity.
Additionally, he hypothesized that within the next decade, VR devices will be more widely available, displacing pornographic websites and applications as they did with periodicals.
Hall further stated that once this occurs, VR sex devices and “multi-sensory” VR with odors will have become the “new normal.”
“Immersive experiences are captivating, exceptionally well simulating the visuals; when combined with haptic technology, such as sex toys that produce physical responses to inputs, they will provide an experience that is sufficiently realistic,” said Hall.
“Sex in virtual reality will feel ‘real’ thanks to connected sex toys.”
Hall hypothesizes that the proliferation of VR headsets will give rise to supplementary products, such as connected sex devices.

“I anticipate a stronger integration between VR headsets and Bluetooth sex toys with haptic technology,” he predicted.
Hall cautioned that the technology raises “huge ethical concerns” regarding consent.
This is because, among other things, the unauthorized use of images or virtual representations of individuals poses a risk.
A comparable apprehension was expressed in a 2017 report, which highlighted the potential for VR erotica to foster impractical expectations regarding sexual encounters and, in more severe cases, permit users to “push the boundaries” by accessing violent and abusive material.
Multi-Sensory VR will Standardize Metaverse Sex
Hall predicted that multi-sensory virtual reality (VR), which employs technology to immerse users in metaverse experiences, including sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste, would standardize metaverse sex.
He continued, “We can anticipate that multi-sensory VR will make sex in the metaverse the norm for the majority of people in technologically advanced regions.”
It is our conviction that forthcoming metaverse sex will involve a fusion of VR headsets and sex devices, which may be interconnected via Bluetooth or other pre-existing technologies, to facilitate an entirely immersive encounter.
The notion of “smelling” in a virtual environment may appear implausible. However, in 2022, Swedish researchers invented a device that emits fragrances through the nostrils of the user while they engage in virtual reality video games.
It administers liquid fragrances to the nostrils at different junctures throughout a game when the user dons a headset.
By linking “physical odors to a synthetic VR environment,” the system modernizes “Smell-O-Vision.”
Swiss professor Hans Laube invented Smell-O-Vision in 1960 to emit fragrances to an audience while they viewed a film.
Metaverse Expands Horizons for Sexual Activity
Regarding sexual activity, the metaverse will force individuals to leave their residences and allow them to connect in a variety of simulated locales, according to Hall.
He continued, “The metaverse has no boundaries and will empower individuals to realize their wildest sexual fantasies.”
It enables individuals to engage in virtual intercourse in various global locations, whether fictitious or real, in private or public settings, and potentially even before a simulated or human virtual audience.
Benefits for Those Facing Challenges in Real Life
According to Hall, research indicates that a minority of men (10–20 percent) obtain the majority of women (80–90 percent) because dating applications make it simpler to choose between various partners.
As an alternative channel for those who have difficulty finding sexual partners, the metaverse will “balance this out.”
“In these virtual worlds, they can be anyone they want to be, and in theory, the experiences they can have are limitless,” Hall said.
In my opinion, is this beneficial for us as ‘humans? However, sex is a fundamental human desire, and individuals will require a means to fulfill that desire.
The Future of Metaverse Romance and Sex Devices
People are already discovering romance in the metaverse, and Hall predicted that this trend will continue to grow as technologies such as virtual reality, metaverse spaces, and sex devices converge.
He explained, “People already utilize online multiplayer games and simulations that virtually simulate sex with their partners and strangers.”
Although there are sex devices (hardware) that can be operated remotely, there is currently no significant functional overlap between these technologies, as far as I am aware.
