  1. Change ‘Side Key’ Function to Power Off
  2. Switch to Chrome as the Default Browser
  3. Customize Default Applications

Samsung makes some of the finest Android devices on the market, but there are a few Galaxy settings that discerning users should alter immediately.

Many of these settings pertain to Samsung’s default applications (Samsung is adamant that you use Samsung apps for everything, which is not always the best option).

Others help Samsung phones operate more quickly and effortlessly (including enabling iPhone-style gestures that are disabled by default).

DailyMail.com has tested each of these tips on an up-to-date Z Flip 5 device, but it’s conceivable that older devices may operate differently.

By default, the ‘off’ icon on the side of Samsung phones does not turn the device off but instead launches Samsung’s unpopular voice assistant Bixby.

In recent years, many phone manufacturers have made it significantly more difficult to switch off your device, so Samsung is not alone in this.

Fortunately, it is simple to remedy: Change the setting in Settings > Advanced features > Side key from ‘Wake Bixby’ to ‘Power off menu.’

Make navigation simpler

By default, your Samsung Galaxy will come with the Samsung Internet browser (its logo resembles a purple planet), but if you use Chrome on multiple devices, you should consider converting.

Thus, you can readily access your saved bookmarks payment methods, etc.

To change the default application, navigate to Settings > Applications> Choose default applications and select Chrome.
