- Older women with younger partners
- Study challenges stereotypes
- Positive correlations found
Cher and Priyanka Chopra are among the renowned Hollywood actresses who have been linked to younger males.
Moreover, a recent study indicates that these purported “cougars” might be onto something.
Positive correlations have been found between the age of a woman’s romantic partner and her emotional intelligence, sexual self-efficacy, and satisfaction levels, according to research.
This indicates, according to scientists from London Metropolitan University, that they enjoy more satisfying romantic relationships.
The researchers wrote, “This study challenges the preconceived notion that women in relationships with younger men are less successful or fulfilling than those in comparable relationships.”
In Vancouver’s bars during the early 2000s, the term ‘cougar’ first appeared to denote an older woman with a predilection for dating younger males.
A number of public figures have obtained this moniker through their associations with younger gentlemen.
Ashton Kutcher, 15 years her junior, dated Demi Moore, while Priyanka Chopra, 40, married Nick Jonas, 30.
Society continues to view these women more critically than elderly men who date younger women, despite their prevalence in Hollywood.
Exploring Older Women Dating Younger Men
“More research is needed in the literature regarding older women who date younger men; we wanted to learn more about the qualities of these women in comparison to women who date men of the same age group,” the study authors, led by Samantha Banbury, wrote in Sexual and Relationship Therapy.
Twenty-four women were enlisted for the research through social media platforms.
Seventeen ‘cougars’ who were considerably older than their companions were included.
In this study, respondents were evaluated in three distinct domains: subjective happiness (SH), emotional intelligence (EI), and sexual self-efficacy (SSE).
Emotional intelligence is the capacity to recognize, articulate, and control one’s emotions, whereas sexual self-efficacy denotes sexual assurance and contentment.
Finally, subjective happiness is an individual’s perception of his or her satisfaction with life and state of well-being.
According to the survey outcomes, the ‘cougars’ obtained superior scores in each of the three categories.

The researchers wrote, “We discovered that “Cougars” scored higher on these measures than women in age-matched dating groups.”
The fact that SSE, E.I., and S.H. are associated with satisfying intimate relationships calls into question the preconceived notion that women in relationships with younger males are less successful or fulfilling than those in similar relationships.
The researchers anticipate that the results will prompt additional investigation into relationships characterized by significant age differences.
They added, “We argue that additional research is required to comprehend the age gap in romantic relationships, including the creation of appropriate interventions that encompass sexual orientation and relationship diversity.”
