The Need for Self-Destructing Voice Notes

Whether it’s an embarrassing story or a juicy piece of hearsay, there are times when you want to share a story via a voice note but don’t want it to sit idle.

Conversely, with the advent of WhatsApp, the ability to quickly delete voice notes may become obsolete.

WhatsApp’s Innovative Privacy Feature

WABetaInfo reports that the messaging application is developing the capability to transmit self-destructing voice notes.

These voice notes are non-exportable, non-saving, and can only be played once.

WABetaInfo explained, “This mode effectively reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access or subsequent listening, adding an additional layer of privacy for sensitive and confidential data.”

Presently, WhatsApp users have the ability to transmit ‘View Once’ messages, photos, and videos, which vanish from the conversation once the recipient has accessed them.

WABetaInfo has identified the testing phase of the most recent WhatsApp beta versions for iOS and Android as the inclusion of the capability to transmit View Once voice notes.

View Once Mode for Voice Notes

The leaked screenshot shows the new app’s chat window with the View Once icon while recording a voice note.

It was explained, “By tapping this icon, the voice note will be transmitted in view once mode, which prevents the recipient from exporting, forwarding, saving, or recording it.”

“You will no longer be able to listen to the voice note after sending it with the view once mode enabled, and the recipient will also be unable to listen to the voice note after dismissing it.”

User Enthusiasm and Privacy Benefits

The feature has not yet been released to all users, although many have voiced their enthusiasm on X (formerly Twitter).

One user tweeted, “It appears to be a good privacy option,” while another praised it as an “awesome feature.”

Assembly View: Launch WhatsApp and choose the conversation from photographs and videos to send a message.

After tapping the Camera icon, a photo is captured. You may also choose to utilize an existing image or video from your Gallery.

Tap the View Once icon at the bottom of the screen prior to clicking the send button. This resembles the letter ‘1’ encircled. Ultimately, press the Send button.

After that, the recipient can only open the photo or video once without storing it in their Photos or Gallery.

WhatsApp emphasizes, nonetheless, that this function is not a foolproof approach.

WhatsApp added, “Remember that there are additional methods by which your media can be saved.”

“Owners may capture a photo or video of your view of the media before it disappears using a camera or other device. Therefore, send only to individuals you can vouch for.”
