Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which were launched last week on the Nintendo Switch, have the lowest Metacritic user scores in series history.
At the time of this writing, Scarlet and Violet had “surpassed” Pokemon Unite’s average score of 3.7 with scores of 2.9 and 3.4, respectively.
Critics lauded the addictive gameplay and brilliant colors of Scarlet and Violet, and in their first three days, they sold a total of 10 million copies.
However, players on social media have reported several bugs and poor graphic performance.
By today’s standards, the visuals are unimpressive; they remind us of a PlayStation 3 game from a decade ago.
The gameplay, which continues Pokemon’s shift towards an open-world experience, is still fun.
Shoddy graphics raise worries about Switch’s future
Some have attributed the Switch’s low graphic performance to its technology; even the most recent version, the premium OLED Switch, is less powerful than Sony’s previous-generation PlayStation 4.
However, more than five years after its release, the Switch is still tremendously popular and was anticipated to be the most popular console on Black Friday.
Searches for the Switch were 132% greater than those for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5, correlating with the fact that the Switch has been the best-selling system every year since its release.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the new open-world epic Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, which is still capable of delivering visually stunning games.
Scarlet and Violet’s problems have generated concerns about the future of regular Pokemon creator GameFreak, but regardless of the lukewarm reaction, Nintendo will not be concerned with its financial performance.
