Rishi Sunak has emphasised the increasing suffering of Palestinian civilians and stated that the United Kingdom has been “straining every sinew” to deliver aid to Gaza, all the while pressing Hamas to liberate its captives.
Rishi Sunak stated that the United Kingdom remains “firmly committed to Israel’s right to defend its security” despite being “deeply disturbed” by the violence that has occurred six months since the Israel-Hamas conflict began.
The prime minister referred to Hamas’s attack on October 7 as “the most abhorrent assault” and “the greatest loss of Jewish life since the Second World War” in remembrance of the victims.
A breach of the barrier separating Israel and Gaza by Hamas militants resulted in the deaths of over 1,100 individuals. Additionally, 250 individuals were taken captive, of which an estimated 130 are still in captivity.
It prompted Israel’s ongoing military operation in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in mass population displacement, an ongoing humanitarian crisis, and the fatalities of over 33,000 Palestinians, according to the health authority of Hamas-run Gaza.
Mr Sunak stated, “Israel has sustained unhealed wounds six months later.” Families continue to lament, and Hamas continues to hold hostages.
“We maintain our support for Israel’s right to defend their security and vanquish the Hamas terrorist threat.”
However, the entirety of the United Kingdom is appalled by the slaughter and the loss of brave British heroes who were delivering sustenance to those in need.
James Kirby, 47, John Chapman, 57, and James “Jim” Henderson, 33, were the three British nationals who perished on April 1 during IDF airstrikes targeting their aid convoy.
Additionally, Mr. Sunak stated that “the toll on civilians continues to rise” after six months of war: “Hunger, desperation, and loss of life on an enormous scale.”

He stated that the United Kingdom was “straining every sinew” to deliver aid to Gaza and that the channel “must be flooded in.” In addition, he reiterated his demand for an immediate humanitarian pause that would result in a “sustainable long-term ceasefire.”
Following the declaration that “the prospect of famine is real” and the announcement that a Royal Navy ship would be deployed to assist in delivering additional aid to Gaza, Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron made this development.
He added, “We remain committed to delivering aid to those in dire need.”
To deliver aid to Gaza promptly and securely, we are constructing a new temporary pier off its coast in collaboration with the United States, Cyprus, and other partners.
Additionally, Lord Cameron stated in The Sunday Times that the United Kingdom’s backing of Israel is “not unconditional,” adding that “the culpability for the deaths of Mr Chapman, Mr Henderson, and Mr Kirby is beyond dispute” and that “this must never happen again.”
He further stated, “We must never forget the Jewish people enduring the deadliest and most destructive pogrom since the Holocaust, which marked the beginning of this conflict.”
