Rishi Sunak is under rising pressure to suspend Dominic Raab, who is now under investigation. The prime minister has already dealt with an investigation against Nadhim Zahawi, which resulted in his dismissal.
A former chairman of the Conservative Party has recommended that Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab be suspended while he is probed for alleged bullying.
Mr. Raab, who is also the justice secretary, is the subject of an inquiry after many civil workers filed accusations. Which Sir Jake Berry feels is enough for him to step aside from his ministerial duties.
Sir Jake, a member of parliament for Rossendale and Darwen. Stated that the former foreign secretary should be “treated as any other employee in the workplace.” Sir Jake succeeded Nadhim Zahawi as chair of the Conservative Party, who was recently dismissed.
Mr. Raab voluntarily participated in the probe, but he disputes the allegations against him.
The lack of suspension appears “bizarre.”
Calling for an amendment to the ministerial code, Mr. Berry said that it would be “quite odd” if someone in a different industry was not suspended pending investigation.
Rishi Sunak is under increasing pressure to suspend his number two. But there is no official process in place that allows ministers to be suspended during investigations.
“This new device would be of immense assistance to the prime minister,” said Mr. Berry.
However, even under the existing regulations, Mr. Raab might be fired on the condition that he is reinstated if the attorney overseeing the investigation, Adam Tolley, clears him of misconduct.
As a result of an investigation into his tax troubles, former chancellor Mr. Zahawi was removed as chairman of the Conservative Party last month, although Mr. Sunak was criticized for not acting sooner.
Allies of the Prime Minister have stated that he was uninformed of complaints against Mr. Raab before appointing him. But a source has told, Beth Rigby, that he was informed of “inappropriate behavior.”
The formal allegations lodged against Mr. Raab date back over four years, including his tenures as Brexit secretary from July to November 2018 and foreign secretary from 2019 to 2021.
In October, Mr. Sunak reappointed him to his position at the Ministry of Justice. Where he had previously worked under Boris Johnson’s government.
Labor and the Liberal Democrats have previously demanded the suspension of Mr. Raab.
