Peter Murrell, the former chief executive of the party and the spouse of the former prime minister, was indicted by law enforcement on Thursday.
Nicola Sturgeon has labeled her domestic circumstances “extremely trying” after the indictment of her husband for the misappropriation of SNP funds.
Peter Murrell, who served as the party’s chief executive until March 2023, was remanded to custody on Thursday in connection with Operation Branchform, a protracted Police Scotland investigation into the SNP’s finances.
After 6.30 p.m. last night, the 59-year-old was charged after remaining in police detention for that time.
After his release from custody, a report was scheduled to be submitted promptly to the Procurator Fiscal Service and the Crown Office.
For the first time since the charge, Ms. Sturgeon, the former first minister of Scotland and former leader of the SNP, addressed reporters outside her Glasgow residence. In light of the circumstances, she stated, “There is nothing I can say.”
