“There can be no more talk of any nuclear-free status for the Baltic – the balance must be restored,” says the representative executive of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev.

Such an improvement would be over two times the length of the tactical partnership’s territory borders with Russia, Moscow added. Finland has an 810-mile line with its neighbor.

Sweden and Finland are surveying their security plans following Vladimir Putin’s intrusion of Ukraine.

Surveys in the two nations have shown help for joining NATO.

Yet, the representative executive of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said Moscow would answer, were that to occur.

“There can be no more conversation about any atomic free status for the Baltic – the equilibrium should be reestablished,” he said.

“Until today, Russia has not taken such measures and was not going to.”

Alluding to land borders, Mr. Medvedev said: “Normally (they) should be fortified.”

He added that Russia would “seriously strengthen the grouping of ground forces and air defense (and) deploy significant naval forces in the Gulf of Finland”.
