Other Conservative MPs were weary of the “blue on blue” infighting during the leadership contest and deemed the petty behavior distasteful after Ms. Dorries said that Liz Truss wore £4.50 earrings from Claire’s Accessories.

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has been criticized for criticizing Rishi Sunak’s pricey suit following the reemergence of interviews in which she admitted spending thousands of dollars on jewelry and clothing.

Ms. Dorries tweeted that Liz Truss, whom she supports for Tory leader, will traverse the United Kingdom wearing £4.50 earrings from bargain jewelry retailer Claire’s Accessories, whereas Rishi Sunak wore a £3,500 Henry Herbert suit and £450 Prada shoes in Teesside.

But other MPs and members of the public were displeased with her sniping, with Angela Richardson, a Tory MP from Guildford, writing, “FFS, Nadine! Muted.”

Johnny Mercer, minister of the Cabinet Office, stated that the “childish” tone of the leadership contest was embarrassing and that it was “time to increase standards.”

Members of the public stated that they did not care how much money candidates spent on their wardrobes; they were only interested in strong policy and had had enough of personal attacks.

Ms. Dorries, who is also a novelist, suddenly reappeared in interviews, including one in The Guardian in 2007 in which she acknowledged possessing £6,000 diamond earrings.

“I will wear lesser clothing, but there are certain items, such as my £6,000 diamond earrings, that I would not compromise on,” she stated.

And in a 2017 interview with the Daily Express, she acknowledged performing two major clothing purchases per year, where she “definitely spends over a thousand pounds.”

When asked about the most expensive piece of her clothing, Ms. Dorries responded, “Probably my jewelry.” I don’t skimp on jewels. I’ve designed some pieces myself at a bespoke jeweler. I observed several products in the store’s window display, but I wanted them to appear differently.”

Ms. Dorries was also questioned over her monthly clothing expenditures.

She responded, “I buy clothes at the beginning of each season rather than every month, so I probably spend over £1,000 a year on two large purchases.” I purchase practically everything online, however.

“You must purchase clothing at the beginning of the season when they begin to arrive in stores.”

Ms. Dorries also disclosed that she owned 20 to 30 pairs of Stuart Weitzman for Russell & Bromley heels.
