On Wednesday, Mr. Hancock, who served as health secretary during the coronavirus outbreak until June 2021, made his debut on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! to mixed reviews from campmates.
A cabinet member stated that “quite a few” MPs and peers have downloaded the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! app to vote for Matt Hancock to participate in the bushtucker trials.
Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris told he did not witness the West Suffolk MP’s appearance on the ITV reality show on Wednesday evening, but he is aware that many of his colleagues are attempting to influence what transpires during his time in the jungle.
“So I’m familiar with the concept of the show, and I suppose there are quite a few individuals in a nearby building, the House of Commons and the House of Lords, who have downloaded a certain voting app,” he told Kay Burley.
“I’m unsure if that’s a positive development”
Mr. Heaton-Harris responded, “Of course, it’s true,” when asked if this was a true story.
Mr. Hancock added the Northern Ireland secretary, “should be here with us voting and discussing in parliament.
Asked whether he believes it to be “Mr. Hancock is currently on the other side of the globe, so Mr. Heaton-Harris stated: “I mean, I’ve read this morning what he said about wanting to prove that all MPs are human, which is true – all MPs are human.
“However, I believe we do this daily in our respective districts and by our actions in the legislature.”
Peter Kyle, the shadow secretary for Northern Ireland, accused Mr. Hancock of using his dyslexia campaign as an “excuse” for appearing on the program.
“I suffer from severe dyslexia. When I learned that Matt Hancock had used dyslexia as an explanation for his actions, I was quite offended because I want dyslexia to be linked with accomplishment “he stated.
“For those of us who have neurological issues and have conquered them, I believe we can all agree that it has a good impact on our lives since overcoming such challenges is a path to success.
“Matt Hancock has repeatedly equated dyslexia with failure, as he has done on numerous occasions.
“I despise this, and I wish we could return to discussing the positive aspects of some of the obstacles people face in their lives.
“Matt Hancock appears to consistently drag all the nice things in life into the gutter.”
A representative for Matt Hancock said: “The second reading of Matt’s Dyslexia Screening and Teacher Training Bill takes place mere days after the conclusion of I’m A Celebrity…
“Matt hopes that his appearance on the show will boost awareness of his dyslexia campaign, and he will take the opportunity to speak in front of millions of people about a topic he feels deeply about.
“Matt is adamant that no child should graduate from elementary school without knowing whether or not they have dyslexia.
“This week, Matt has been working on constituent issues, and show producers have agreed that he can connect with his team if an urgent constituent issue arises while he is on air.
“Matt will return to Suffolk to hold surgeries where he will meet up with his constituents and discuss pressing issues as soon as his time in camp concludes.
“As a result of his presence, Matt will donate to the St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and organizations promoting dyslexia, notably the British Dyslexia Association.
As is customary, he will submit the money he earns from the show to the Parliament to ensure complete openness.

Ant and Dec quipped at the beginning of the show that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer had “downloaded the I’m A Celebrity app” to vote for Mr. Hancock to face the trials.
After returning to camp with six out of a possible eleven stars, Mr. Hancock conversed with the other celebs as Boy George encouraged him: “You will get it. You will receive it.”
Mr. Hancock was selected for the next bushtucker trial following a public poll. He will complete the assignment later, with his performance airing tonight on ITV.
