James Forsyth, the political editor of the Spectator, has been hired by Rishi Sunak as his political secretary.

The move comes as the prime minister continues to strengthen his top team in Downing Street in an attempt to reverse recent bad poll results for the Conservative Party.

Mr. Forsyth will reportedly serve as a liaison between Mr. Sunak, the policy team, and the party.

It is a political appointment at no expense to taxpayers.

Mr. Forsyth is a personal friend of Mr. Sunak and was his best man at the wedding of the prime minister.

The former political editor is also married to Allegra Stratton, who resigned as government spokesman for the COP26 climate meeting in the wake of the partygate incident under former prime minister Boris Johnson.

It occurred after footage of her laughing about a party at Downing Street during the height of lockdown regulations in December 2020 became public.

In a speech made in front of her home, Ms. Stratton expressed sorry for joking with fellow Number 10 aides during a rehearsal for a proposal to video Downing Street news briefings that were ultimately abandoned.

In the fight against COVID-19, the British people have made countless sacrifices. I now fear that my remarks in the video that was leaked on December 20 may have constituted a diversion from this struggle “She stated,

“My comments appeared to make light of the restrictions, which people were making every effort to observe. Never was that my intention I extend my sincerest apologies to everyone for these words, which I will regret for the rest of my life.”

It is believed that both the Conservatives and Labour are consolidating their operations in preparation for the upcoming general election, which must take place no later than January 2025.

Mr. Forsyth will leave his position as political editor at the Spectator to assume his new position at Downing Street.
