Dominic Raab told that his infamous wink during Prime Minister’s Questions last month was not directed towards Angela Rayner.
Ms. Rayner noted at the time that the wink was “a little strange” and made the public feel “a little icky.”
On social media, Mr. Raab was accused of sexism for the wink, which appeared to be directed at the Labour Party’s deputy leader.
In the absence of Mr. Johnson, who was attending a NATO summit, the two deputies were engaged in a fierce debate.
The deputy prime minister stated that he was winking at Ian Murray, the shadow Scotland secretary.
“I was winking at Ian Murray,” Mr. Raab stated.
He proceeded: “In addition, I must state that you are correct, Angela Rayner is a tremendous asset to each of these.
“She is very vibrant. It is quite the difference with Keir.”
Mr. Raab, when asked why he winked at Mr. Murray, stated: “I believe it was stated that Angela Rayner would compete against Keir in a leadership election, and he remarked, “What’s the problem with that?”
In any case, it is all part of the competition.
After last month’s release of the winking video, social media was flooded with charges of misogyny.
Ms. Rayner noted at the time that the wink was “a little strange” and made the public feel “a little icky.”
It was alleged at the time that Mr. Murray whispered, inaudible to viewers at home, that Ms. Rayner’s candidacy for Labour Party leader would be “no bad thing.”
