Numerous male motorists have long asserted that women are the more inept gender behind the wheel, especially when parking.
However, statistics indicate that women are significantly superior at maneuvering vehicles into tight spaces.
According to a new study, men are significantly more likely than women to be involved in a parking incident. But they are also more likely to believe they are adept at it.
Compared to 8% of women, 16% of males parked and hit another car or stationary object up to four times in the past year.
While attempting to maneuver into spaces, the drivers collided with other vehicles and objects such as bollards, walls, and fences.
And 16% of men have struck another vehicle or stationary object up to four times while parking in the past year, compared to 8% of women. Men were also found to be 50% more likely than women to collide with another vehicle while parking. Six percent of men acknowledged up to seven accidents during the period, while only four percent of women did so.
Despite the finding that women are better at parking than men, more than half of men (53%) consider themselves to be excellent parkers, compared to only 37% of women.
The insurance company Forbes Advisor polled 2,000 British adults on the number of car park prangs they experienced between July of last year and August of this year.
Twenty-three percent of both sexes admitted to either striking or scraping obstacles while parking in the past year. But nearly half, or 45 percent, believe they are competent parkers.
Over 10% of drivers park between two bays because they’re uncomfortable and want room. About 18% of men and women loathe the manoeuvre so much that they park farther away to avoid being watched. Thirteen percent of those surveyed said they would even park ten minutes away to find a quiet location.
While technological advancements such as car park assist and self-parking features may make it simpler for drivers to maneuver into parking spaces, many cars on the road still lack these capabilities, according to a Forbes Advisor spokesperson.
Many drivers, particularly males, have difficulty parking in tight spaces, resulting in accidents that could affect their auto insurance premiums.
He added, ‘When attempting to park, it’s essential to take your time and eliminate any distractions, such as loud music or objects in the rearview mirror. This should reduce your likelihood of colliding with adjacent vehicles or obstacles.
