This Brazilian native’s surreal appearance will lend whimsy to the decor.

Why will I enjoy this?
Cereus forbesii ‘Spiralis’ is “plant sculpting” at its finest, a naturally spiraling columnar cactus with an otherworldly appearance that will bring a playful aspect to a space.

The plant of the week is the spiral cactus.

Light or darkness?

Where shall I place it?
Before a bright window in your living room.

How do I keep it alive?
Similar to other cacti, it favors dry roots. You may prevent root rot by using well-draining soil, placing the plant in a container with a drainage hole, and allowing the soil to dry out fully between waterings. In the spring and summer, apply fertilizer every two to three weeks and water weekly. In the fall and winter, cease watering and feeding your cactus and set it in a cool location. Protect against temperatures below 10° Celsius.

Did you know …
Nearly all spiraled cacti sold globally are rumored to be hybrids descended from a single mother plant discovered in Brazil in 1980 and transferred to Europe. Since then, replication via cuttings has allowed this rare cactus to be included in collections all around the globe.
