- Willtex’s Willcook: portable microwave bag
- Generates heat, maintains temperature
- Showcased at CES 2024
With this technologically advanced satchel, cold-packed picnics and soggy sandwiches may one day be obsolete.
The world’s first ‘microwave bag’ provides piping hot cuisine in minutes, regardless of location.
Developers claim the bag can reach temperatures of 176°F (80°C) in less than five minutes.
The Willtex Willcook, resembling a laptop case, is designed to be carried over the shoulder while reheating food.
Creators claim it can maintain meal temperature for a maximum of eight hours with an external battery.
Willcook is a patented technology enabling Willtex to produce a lightweight, portable microwave bag. It is constructed of fabric and capable of generating heat.
Although labelled a “microwave bag,” it does not heat food in a microwave, distinguishing it from other portable microwaves.
Willcook’s Advanced Fibre Construction
The bag is constructed from sophisticated fibre material developed using Japanese Sanky Consys fibre technology.
Prior to Willcook, it wasn’t common for consumer goods to incorporate heating technology into fabric designs.
This bag joins an assortment of cold-resistant apparel, including heated jackets, socks, and shoe insoles.
Researchers from the University of Texas created a self-heating pillow and mattress last year.
Willtex claims each fibre can generate its heat, with the material adjustable from 104°F (40°C) to 482°F (250°C).

It’s not specified whether the bag will be restricted to a safer temperature for use.
The innermost layer, containing heating elements, is coated with a substance resistant to staining, water, and oil.
The insulated layer keeps the bag shielded from excessive heat during transportation, with an exterior layer resembling any other laptop bag.
Utilising the companion app ‘HOTOPIA,’ the internal temperature can be monitored and modified in real-time.
The insulated layer will be helpful not only during winter but also for keeping beverages cold.
Willtex stated that the Willcook’s high cooling capacity is due to heat-insulating cotton and a high-heat-shielding aluminium film.
Beer can reportedly be stored at a “delicious” 118°F (48°C) temperature for up to two hours.
The battery is offered separately for ¥6,500 (£35.62), while the purse comes in three hues for ¥23,000 (£126.05).
At present, delivery options are only available for Japan on the Willtex website, but the bag is available for purchase.
Willtex has announced that the Willcook will be showcased at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2024.
