- Musk uses ketamine for depression, sees investor benefits
- Denies substance abuse, maintains high productivity at Tesla, SpaceX
- Discusses potential Trump meeting, undecided on presidential endorsement
Musk has defended his use of prescription ketamine to treat his “negative frame of mind,” implying that Tesla’s investors benefit from his drug use.
During an occasionally tense interview with former CNN presenter Don Lemon, Musk disclosed that he finds the anaesthetic beneficial when a “negative chemical state” is present.
“Occasionally, I experience… depression unrelated to negative news; in such cases, ketamine proves to be a beneficial substance for dispelling my negative mindset,” Musk stated in an interview that aired on X on Monday.
Elon Musk, who owns X and operates Tesla and SpaceX, responded that he does not believe he has ever abused the substance and that he takes no more than a “small amount” approximately every other week.
“An excessive amount of ketamine renders it nearly impossible to accomplish tasks, and I have a substantial workload, working an average of 16 hours per day.” “I find that to be typical,” Musk stated.
“I cannot waste my time if I cannot complete my work,” he continued.
Elon Musk also refuted the notion that his substance usage might impact his government contracts or the opinions of Wall Street investors.
“From nothing, Tesla is worth approximately as much as the rest of the automobile industry combined.” That looks quite nice. We had the world’s best-selling automobile the year prior. “Therefore, from the perspective of investors, I should continue taking whatever I am taking,” he stated.
Musk further stated that he had previously disclosed his utilisation of ketamine, a pharmaceutical substance prescribed by physicians for the treatment of pain and melancholy, to assist others.
Additionally, the 52-year-old billionaire deliberated on the possibility of a March meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump, which he claimed occurred after the Republican candidate paid an unannounced visit to a friend’s residence.
“President Trump enjoys conversing. We, therefore, engaged in conversation. Musk continued, “I cannot recall him stating anything that he has not already stated publicly,” adding that Trump had not solicited political contributions or other forms of financial backing.

Musk stated that he had not yet decided whether or not to endorse a candidate in the “final stretch” for the presidential election in November.
The South African-born naturalised U.S. citizen stated he was “leaning away” from U.S. President Joe Biden rather than supporting a particular candidate.
Before the premiere of the first episode, Musk abruptly cancelled “The Don Lemon Show” last week, despite X and Lemon announcing a content partnership in January.
Lemon, who discussed hate speech on X during an interview with Musk, remarked that the Tesla CEO’s professed dedication to free speech “appears to exclude inquiries from individuals such as myself.”
Musk subsequently stated on X that Lemon’s strategy “lacked authenticity” and was “essentially CNN on social media.”
