A prominent fertility expert has stated that lockdowns caused widespread apprehension about meeting a partner, leading to a significant increase in the number of women choosing to preserve their eggs during the Covid pandemic.

The demand for egg-freezing services at one of the largest private IVF providers in the United Kingdom reached all-time highs during the coronavirus outbreak, according to Professor Geeta Nargund, the clinics’ leader.

Create Fertility observed a 54% increase in the number of women requesting embryo preservation services between 2020 and 2022.

Prof. Nargund, chief consultant for reproductive medicine services at St George’s NHS Hospital in London, stated, “Women had difficulty dating and meeting potential partners during the lockdown due to social isolation.” Additionally, they were cognizant of the fact that their biological clock was ticking.

This, coupled with the apprehension that individuals experienced due to the lockdowns, constituted a “perfect storm.”
