Former talk show presenter Wendy Williams has expressed her gratitude to her audience for their support following her diagnosis of dementia and aphasia.

Williams, aged 59, conveyed “immense gratitude” for the “love and kind words” received, stating that the response had been “overwhelming.”

The celebrity informed the Associated Press in a statement that the messages served as a reminder of “the necessity for compassion and the strength of unity.”

For over ten years, she hosted the nationally syndicated Wendy Williams Show, which concluded in 2022 due to the health issues she was experiencing.

On Thursday, her care team publicly disclosed the diagnosis in an effort “to dispel false and hurtful rumours about her health.”

As Wendy’s supporters are aware, she has previously been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease, lymphedema, and other significant health challenges,” a statement read.

Aphasia, a condition of the nervous system that impairs communication, often leaves sufferers unable to articulate their thoughts or even incapable of writing or speaking.

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which affects language and communication skills, is an incurable brain disorder caused by damage to the brain’s left hemisphere. While there is no treatment to stop or prevent the progression of its symptoms, which worsen over time, they can be managed, according to the National Institutes of Health.

It is most commonly diagnosed in individuals aged between 45 and 64, a significantly younger age range than that of other types of dementia.
