Sacha Baron Cohen intends to resurrect Ali G, the notorious parody wannabe gangster who became a comedy sensation 25 years ago, for a new stand-up tour.

In the early 2000s, Ali G became popular due to the prank interviews he conducted with unwitting experts on his television program.

He has made occasional appearances in recent years and subsequently starred in his film.

According to Variety, Baron Cohen has been working on a stand-up tour featuring Ali G.

In 2021, Baron Cohen reintroduced Ali G for a segment at the MTV Movie & TV Awards and a one-time performance at a Sydney comedy club.

“I just wanted to see what Ali G would be like in front of an audience,” the comedian told GQ after the performance. It was extremely enjoyable.

In his early days, Ali G elicited laughter by convincing a variety of interviewees to go along with his persona, as well as by parodying white suburbanites who posed as urban youth.

Nonetheless, the act was criticized by some who viewed it as an adoption and mockery of black street culture.

Baron Cohen, who is now 51 years old, also achieved success with similar pranks as his Kazakh reporter Borat and as the flamboyant Austrian fashion designer Bruno.
