After a career as an astronaut, chef, paramedic, skateboarder, teacher, beekeeper, and mermaid, it is only fitting that Barbie attempts to become a movie sensation.

A star-studded, live-action film about the world’s most renowned doll will be released this summer, and it is already one of the most anticipated films.

The film, which was announced in 2017, has undergone several cast changes and numerous delays but is ultimately scheduled to debut in July.

Barbie: The Movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has taken over social media.

This week, a teaser trailer was released that simultaneously elicited the sensation of feeling queasy in a candy store and sparked a flurry of brilliant memes.

Here is all the information you need about the film.

Who portrays Barbie?

Perhaps it would be simpler to enumerate the actors who do not appear in Barbie.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling may play Barbie and Ken in a film, but there is one small problem: there are hundreds of Barbie models in the world of dolls.

Consequently, Dua Lipa (who portrays the mermaid Barbie), Nicola Coughlan (diplomat Barbie), and Ana Cruz Kayne also appear in the film. (Supreme Court Justice Barbie).

Issa Rae of Insecure will depict a president Barbie, while Emma Mackey of Sex Education will portray a physicist Barbie.

Ncuti Gatwa of Doctor Who will portray a guitar-playing Ken, while Scott Evans of One Life to Live will portray a cowboy-hat-wearing Ken.

The British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir (another Ken), Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon (another Barbie), and Tick, Tick… Boom!’s Alexandra Shipp is among the other performers. (yet another Barbie, this time an author).

Emerald Fennell of The Crown portrays Barbie’s closest friend, Midge, while Michael Cera of Juno portrays Ken’s friend Allan.

Human roles will be portrayed by America Ferrera of Ugly Betty, Will Ferrell of Elf, Jamie Demetriou of Stath Lets Flats, and Connor Swindells of Sex Education.

The narrator will be voiced by Dame Helen Mirren, because, why not?

Greta Gerwig, a filmmaker nominated for an Oscar, is charged with bringing this elaborate confection to the screen.

The 39-year-old is best known for directing films such as Lady Bird, which earned her an Oscar nomination for best director and starred Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, and Timothée Chalamet.

She helmed the 2019 Little Women remake, starring Ronan, Chalamet, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, and Laura Dern. It garnered her a second Oscar nomination, this time for screenplay adaptation.

Gerwig has appeared in the films Frances Ha, 20th Century Women, and most recently White Noise.

Her filmmaking collaborator Noah Baumbach directed the latter, and she co-wrote the Barbie script with him.

Can you show me some images from the film?

Are you sure? However, if you have a phobia of the color pink (Rhodophobia), now would be a good moment to stop scrolling.

Why has the caravan become so popular?

The film’s large cast and character posters have spawned amusing social media memes.

Warner Bros. coded a website that let fans add themselves to banners before the trailer’s release to avoid chaos.

Nobody used it for that purpose. Twitter users have instead speculated about who else could appear in the Barbie Cinematic Universe.

Danny Dyer, Shiv and Kendall from Succession, and Gwyneth Paltrow during her ski trial are among our favorites. Or how about the Ted Lasso cast?

Perhaps the character played by Andrew Garfield in The Social Network? If not, there is always Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and twelve of Cate Blanchett’s most recognizable characters.

Perhaps one of the most clever movie posters is Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, which alludes to the fact that Barbie is released on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film about the creation of the atomic weapon.

Even though they are aimed at entirely distinct demographics, we plan to screen both when they are released.

Why has it taken so long for the film to be released?

Numerous cast and creative team changes (normal in the film business) and Covid are reasons.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Amy Schumer withdrew from the role of the titular puppet in 2017.

“I’m disappointed but excited to see Barbie on the big screen,” Schumer said at the time.

Margot Robbie was announced as the film’s star and producer in early 2019. Anne Hathaway was reportedly in negotiations to take over, but the role ultimately went to Margot Robbie.

Initially, Alethea Jones was slated to oversee the project, then it was rumored that Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman, would take over, before Gerwig took over in July 2021.

Additionally, shutdowns in 2020 and 2021 delayed the production process.
