Whoopi Goldberg was discussing Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign when she used a derogatory term for Romani people. Currently, she has issued an apology.
Whoopi Goldberg has issued an apology after using a racial slur on a talk program.
On an episode of ABC’s The View, the TV host and actor referred to “people who still believe he was, you know, gypped in some way” when discussing Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election.
Due to its negative connotations, the word is deemed derogatory towards Romani people. It is believed to be derived from the word “gypsy.”
In a video posted to Twitter, Goldberg said, “I should have said ‘cheated,’ but I used a different word; I’m incredibly sorry.”
“You know, when you reach a certain age, you use phrases that you remember using as a child, and that’s what I did today, and I shouldn’t have,” she said.
Goldberg was suspended from The View last year for claiming that the Holocaust had nothing to do with race.
She expressed regret for the remarks, which were described by others as “devastating” and “dangerous.”
Goldberg stated, “Let’s be honest – the Holocaust has nothing to do with racism.
“It is about the inhumanity of man toward man; that is what it is about.”
When one of her co-hosts stated that the Holocaust was “about white supremacy,” Goldberg responded, “But these are two white people organizations.
You have missed the point. As soon as you make it a competition, it goes down this alley.
“Let’s call it what it is: how individuals treat one another. It is an issue.
“It doesn’t matter whether you are black or white, because black, white, and Jews all eat each other.”
Her comments provoked a furious response, with Jewish organizations and others criticizing her.
