Netflix has revealed that the dystopian thriller and global phenomenon Squid Game will return for a second season.
With more than 100 million viewers in its first month, the series became the streaming giant’s most-watched program when it debuted in September of last year.
The show follows cash-strapped candidates as they compete in childhood activities for the chance to win life-altering sums of money.
In this South Korean game show, participants must defeat 455 other contestants by playing children’s games such as Red Light, and Green Light, but if they fail, they die.
In a letter issued by Netflix, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted at a few clues regarding the second season of the show.
He stated that Gi-hun and The Front Man will return, and that “the man in the suit with ddakji may return as well.”
“You will also meet Young-boyfriend,” hee’s he continued.
In one of the games, Young-hee is a motion-detecting robotic doll.
The director stated after the previous year that he was “in the process of developing” a second season.
Netflix has not disclosed the release date for the upcoming season.
The announcement comes as Netflix subscribers continue to enjoy the recently released first part of the fourth season of Stranger Things.
In its first two weeks, the new season was viewed for over 620 million hours. The second volume will be released in July.
