Rocky star Sylvester Stallone has been acting for years, but he is going to play a mobster in the Paramount+ drama Tulsa King for the first time.
In a career spanning more than five decades, Sylvester Stallone has assumed his first scripted television role in the new series Tulsa King.
And the actor told that he found it to be very different from filmmaking, admitting that it was sometimes difficult.
Stallone said, “I’ve been around for millennia; Julius Caesar was my first director.”
“No, I mean a very, very long time; therefore, can you tolerate approximately 400 pages of dialogue per season? No cue cards to do it? And it is quite a struggle, but I also find it invigorating when it is accomplished.
“The hardest part is that there is no life if you know what I mean. I now have sympathy for actors who work in streaming, as I recently purchased a mobile home that I have yet to see.
The 76-year-old had already been working for years when he rocketed to fame as Rocky Balboa in the 1976 boxing picture of the same name, launching a franchise that will continue until March 2018 with the release of Creed 3.
He attributes his longevity in the industry to his mentality, which also contributed to his rivalry-turned-friendship with fellow action actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“I don’t know if it’s a kind of attitude towards life in general and ‘this can’t be it, there’s always something more around the corner,’ or if I just dislike the word ‘no,'” Stallone stated.
“I’d say I’m created for the challenge, and if someone says, ‘Hey, I’m the hardest working actor,’ I respond, ‘No, you’re not – that sort of stuff.
“Like with Arnold, I physically manifested our animosity – I liked it, and he liked it because it pushed him too, so we created ourselves into two fantastic teams that loathed each other but played better because of it.
“However, I believe the primary incentive is leaving the house; with three children and three female dogs, I’m a sitting duck.”
The actor’s family is also a driving force behind his next television endeavor, a reality show.
Stallone claims he wanted to do this for posterity.
He disclosed, “I’m participating in a reality program since my life is odd.”
“I have a wife, dogs, and children, and I believe you know what? Permit me to do the same. This is reminiscent of a journey down memory lane.
“Are you aware that you wish to show them home movies? So the children recall? I’d like to do something similar, but it’s not about the money; I’d like to do it for the sake of remembering.”
After dominating Hollywood and now turning his attention to television, you may believe Stallone is ready to retire.
Instead, he states that he has many more items on his bucket list.
“Well, it’s a bathtub’s worth of items, it’s growing, it’s not even a bucket – that’s long gone.
Yes, we’re interested in this jacuzzi list.
In Tulsa King, his character is a mobster transported to Tulsa, a city not typically associated with organized crime.
It is a traditional fish-out-of-water narrative, but while Stallone’s character may be out of his comfort zone, he appears to be very much in his as long as he is working.
On Monday, Tulsa King premieres on Paramount+.
