The 33-year-old dancer from Caerphilly, Amy Dowden, declared that she had “cried all morning” before ringing the bell that signified the conclusion of her chemotherapy treatment.

Dowden, a Strictly Come Dancing star, was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer earlier this year.

During her treatment, she did not appear with a celebrity, despite making sporadic appearances throughout the current season.

On Instagram, Dowden announced that she had “cried all morning” before her eighth and final chemotherapy session, which began in July.

However, following the session, she stated: “At times, this day of clanging the chemo bell seemed interminable, and I seriously considered whether or not I would survive. I feel such pride in myself.”

Reflecting on the Challenging Journey

Dowden expressed hope that the treatment “hopefully has now given me the chance at more life,” for which she is “eternally grateful,” describing it as her “most difficult journey to date.”

In an emotional video posted to Instagram, the dancer said, “Amy, I will never be the same; however, I am more resilient than I ever imagined, and I have made the most incredible companions throughout this journey.”

She added, “Currently, I despise gazing at myself in the mirror, but I am cognizant of the fact that ‘this too shall pass’ and that this is a minor inconvenience.”

Dowden initially underwent a mastectomy and daily hormone injections to retrieve her ova. In August, she disclosed that she had developed peritonitis after her initial course of chemotherapy.

At present, she is awaiting an MRI to determine whether or not she requires additional surgery.

In the video, Dowden expressed gratitude and gave a hug to the unit personnel who had cared for her throughout her treatments while in tears.

Support and Well-Wishes from Colleagues

Several Strictly stars, including fellow dancer Dianne Buswell, expressed their condolences to Dowden, stating that it made them “so happy.”

Michelle Visage, a former contestant, wrote, “We adore you, Amy.”

Dowden also expressed her eagerness to return to the training room and stated that her dancing shoes were “warming up” before her wedding to fellow professional dancer Ben Jones in July of last year.

Since her 2017 debut, she has dated celebrities such as McFly’s Tom Fletcher, actor Danny John-Jules, and James Bye from EastEnders.

Chemotherapy eradicates neoplastic cells through medication, as part of the treatment. Cancer cells are prevented from proliferating and spreading throughout the body, as stated on the NHS website.

Among the adverse effects are fatigue, nausea, and hair loss.

Viewers commended Dowden for perusing the terms and privacy notice of Strictly without a wig recently.
