The comedian’s video comes ahead of a special programme by Channel 4’s Dispatches which is due to air on Saturday night.
Russell Brand has denied “extremely serious criminal allegations” that a newspaper and television company will make against him.
In a video titled “So, This is Happening” posted on YouTube and X, formerly known as Twitter, the comedian denied the allegations he described as “a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks.”
At the height of his career, he claimed to have been “extremely promiscuous,” but his relationships were “always consensual.
It comes before a special episode of Channel 4’s Dispatches, scheduled to broadcast on Saturday evening.
Overnight, The Sunday Times is also scheduled to publish a report.
In this narrative, Brand is the news.
“Very grave allegations that I vehemently refute”
“I have received either two letters or a letter and an email that are exceedingly disturbing. One from a mainstream media TV company and one from a mainstream media newspaper listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid things such as my community festival should be stopped, stating that I shouldn’t be allowed to attack mainstream media narratives on this channel.
“However, amidst this litany of astoundingly baroque assaults, there are some very serious allegations that I vehemently refute.
“These allegations relate to when I was working in the mainstream when I was constantly in the newspapers and the movies. And, as I’ve discussed extensively in my writings, I was extraordinarily promiscuous.
During that period of promiscuity, all of my relationships were entirely consensual. I have always been transparent about this, almost to a fault, and I continue to be transparent now.
“The fact that this transparency has mutated into something criminal, which I categorically deny, makes me wonder if there is another agenda at play.”
He continued, “I’m aware that you’ve been saying for some time in the remarks, ‘Watch out, Russell! Russell Brand did not commit suicide.
“A year ago, there was a spate of articles claiming that Russell Brand is a conspiracy theorist and a conservative. I am aware that news media have been calling and writing to persons I know for eons.
A deliberate and concerted plan of action
“It is becoming apparent to me, or at least it appears to me, that there is a serious and concerted effort to control these types of spaces and voices. I mean my voice in addition to yours”.
I’m fine if they utilise my books and testify about my promiscuity. I strongly deny these heinous crimes.
“It is also important to note that there are witnesses whose testimony directly contradicts the narrative that these two mainstream media outlets are attempting to construct in what appears to be a coordinated attack.
“Because of the gravity of the allegations, I do not wish to elaborate, but I feel like I’m being assaulted. And it’s clear that they’re working closely together. We will investigate this matter because it is extremely serious. In the meantime, I want you to stay close, and stay awake, but more important than any of that, if you can, please remain free.”
Brand has not identified the newspaper and television network that, according to him, have made allegations against him.
